Although living quite a pleasant life in a charming little town in the south of France, Philippe and Julie Abrams are not completely happy as Julie has been feeling depressed for a while. To cheer his depressed wife up, Philippe, a post office administrator, tries his best to get transferred to the sea side. Things get messy when he is relocated, or rather banished, to the far north of France instead. Their new home, the town of Bergues is said to be crammed with hard-drinking, unemployed and stony people and to top Philippe’s agony, they speak the mysterious and impossible to understand dialect of Ch’ti. However, when Philippe gets there, it turns out that maybe Bergues is not such an unbearable place…at all.
